NET/TEN Remote Connection Mini-Grants

NET continues to adapt to the impact of the pandemic by adjusting the Fall 2020 Travel Grant round to meet the immediate challenges and unique opportunities of this moment, and respond to our members’ urgent needs and concerns. Using the reconceived model we implemented in Spring 2020, we will offer NET/TEN Winter 2020/21 Remote Connection Mini-Grants of $250 and $500 (based on the applicant’s membership category) for NET member artists and ensembles to build relationships across distance by exploring remote opportunities for artistic and administrative connections, exchanges, peer learning, and research.

NET’s primary focus is on the health and safety of our community, and the need to support our members by releasing funds into the field as quickly and barrier-free as possible. The Winter 2020/21 NET/TEN Remote Connection Mini-Grant application will consist of a simple online form that takes less than five minutes to complete. Submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis, and will be reviewed and awarded with rapid-response notification on a weekly basis until the funding pool is depleted. The total pool of funds to be awarded is $25,000; we anticipate being able to award approximately 60-70 grants, depending on the distribution of individual/student ($250) and ensemble/affiliate ($500) applicants.

In this Winter 2020/21 Mini-Grant round, NET's goal is to prioritize relationship building that is initiated by artists and ensembles who live and work at the intersection of identities that are marginalized by racist and oppressive systems. The process will therefore aim to center Black and Indigenous artists and ensembles in the NET membership, and to also lift up and support those who identify as POC (People of Color), disabled artists, immigrant artists on O-work visas, LGBTQIA+ artists, parents and caregivers, and other folks living at the intersections of oppression, by actively prioritizing funding for these requests. Given the limited funding pool, and the urgent need that exists for so many in our community at this moment, we ask NET members to consider this opportunity in the spirit of our shared values, in keeping with our communal commitment to addressing systemic inequities (see NET’s Equity in Funding Statement), and with mindfulness of your level of access to other resources or proximity to privilege.
