ARTEL (Los Angeles, CA) will begin planning a collaboratively created performance entitled, The Black Hen with Animal Cracker Conspiracy (San Diego, CA). Together they will share practices and discuss shared performance experiences.
Circle X Theatre Co. (Los Angeles, CA) has commissioned playwright Octavio Solis to reimagine The Cherry Orchard with a focus on rural Northern California communities, through an ensemble-based community engagement project. Two Circle X ensemble members will travel to Siskiyou County to conduct interviews and teach classes in partnership with Siskiyou County Land Trust and Siskiyou County Cattlewoman.
Fay|Glassman Performance (Urbana, IL) will engage in a 3-week artistic exchange with Jung Dae Kyung, chair of the Korea Small Theater Association (Seoul, South Korea), and Yu Jin Gyu, director of the Chuncheon International Mime Festival (Chuncheon, South Korea). The artists will share composition and performance techniques to manifest the core structure of an evening-length work and develop international touring strategies.
Sandglass Theater (Putney, VT) will collaborate with Teatro Luis Poma (San Salvador, El Salvador) on a puppetry production of G.E. Lessing’s Nathan the Wise, an 18th Century German play about racial and religious intolerance. The project activities will include workshops in puppetry to build Teatro Luis Poma’s capacity for working with puppets.
Square Top Theatre (Spokane, WA) will meet with Wes Kline, Studio Matejka, and RadArtin Tromsø, Norway, to explore mutual training and interdisciplinary methods of composition. The aim is to develop a multi-media, multi-format performance work that exists interdependently as a live theatrical production, as a film, and as a gallery installation.
Touchstone Theatre (Bethlehem, PA) will host Teatro Potlach (Fara Sabina, Italy) for a week-long intensive of pedagogical exchange and process sharing. Topics to be explored include actor training, modern approaches to Grotowski’s teachings, and comparative analysis of each theatre’s community-based work. Touchstone and Potlach will begin laying the groundwork for a future international collaboration.
Walkabout Theater Company (Chicago, IL) will bring Mario Biagini and two members of the Open Program team from The Workcenter of Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards(Pontedera, Italy) to Chicago for a 2-day intensive workshop and exchange in October 2105.
The Warehouse Project & Gallery (Summit, IL) will host a Theatre of the Oppressed inspired joker-training with Shannon Ivey (Orangeburg, South Carolina) as the lead facilitator. The joker-training will allow the company to expand on Theatre of the Oppressed facilitation techniques they have begun to use in their work with young audiences to create positive social change.
