2015 - 2016 Exchange Grant Recipients

Applied Mechanics (Philadelphia, PA) will invite Jorge Just (Oakland, CA) to host a workshop on innovative online technologies and their practical applications as part of the development and rehearsal process for a new multi-media piece, Chronotope.

Borderlands Theater (Tucson, AZ) will collaborate with Baktun 12 (Salinas, CA) to develop and workshop a new performance piece titled, Nogales, by playwright Richard Montoya with Campo Santo (San Francisco, CA). Collaborators will share knowledge around site-specific performance, community collaboration, interview-based docu-theatre, and cross-sector partnerships with local educational, civic, and community organizations. 

Hand2Mouth (Portland, OR) and WaxFactory (New York, NY) will workshop their newest works-in-progress in closed rehearsals at their respective studios, followed by public discussion events aimed at the wider Portland and New York theatre communities. The project will explore modes of ensemble-to-ensemble exchange that are active and participatory.

Mondo Bizarro (New Orleans, LA) and Double Edge Theatre (Ashfield, MA) will host a week-long festival of performer trainings, public dialogues, and exchanges. These activities will help lay the groundwork for a national student exchange program linked to a consortium of ensemble-based training companies that also includes Q-Staff, The Hinterlands, and Charlestown Working Theater.

Representatives from The Neo-Futurists (Chicago, IL), New York Neo-Futurists, and San Francisco Neo-Futurists will meet to re-envision and re-invent the way their three companies work together. They will share strategies to strengthen their national branding, company efficiency, and overall artistic visions.

Pangea World Theater (Minneapolis, MN) and Carlton Turner of M.U.G.A.B.E.E. (Utica, MS) will explore Race: North and South on the Mississippi as part of an exchange that examines issues of race and its intersectionality between African Americans and immigrant communities in the Twin Cities and Jackson, Mississippi.

Pig Iron Theatre Company (Philadelphia, PA) and composer/filmmaker Troy Herion (New York, NY) will come together for 10 days to exchange improvisation and composition techniques related to the devising of original music-theater. This exchange will lay the groundwork for a new work of symphonic theater by Herion and Pig Iron.

Radical Evolution (Brooklyn, NY) will host El Teatro Campesino (San Juan Bautista, CA) for a 10-day residency in Brooklyn, NY. Together they will continue to develop a joint project around the story of Los San Patricios, and learn about creating multi-cultural, devised performance aesthetics within New York City’s vast theatrical field.

TeAda Productions (Los Angeles, CA) and T-Shirt Theatre (Honolulu, HI) will engage in interviews, story circles, and an ensemble creation process to deepen their understanding of the Micronesian community, one of the newest immigrant groups in Hawai’i. The project will include community engagement workshops and will culminate in a public presentation and community dialogue.
