Candidates for NET Board of Trustees membership are nominated by NET Members.  Nominations remain active for three years. NET Members may self-nominate or nominate another NET Member. Nominees may be members of a member ensemble or individual NET members OR may be ensemble practitioners, presenters, teachers, OR other interested parties who join NET at the time of their nomination. 

The term of service for a NET Board Member is four calendar years, starting in January and completing in December.   

NET Board Members are expected to

·        Help carry out the mandate of the Board,

·        Participate in monthly 2-hour phone conference meetings of the Board,

·        Serve on at least one committee of the Board,

·        Attend the annual NET Gathering and the occasional National Festival,

·        Help cultivate membership and supporters of NET, and

·        Suggest and recruit new Board members. 

This year, nominations must be submitted to the Chair of the Nominating Committee by Midnight EST, Sunday, September 30, 2007. 

Nominations must include

• Completed Nomination Form for NET Board of Trustees
• Letter stating with some specificity what the nominee would bring to the Board, particularly with regard to NET’s vision, values, and action plan.   Please refer to NET’s mission Statement, Core Values and other information found on Nomination Form
• Brief bio (one page or less)

This year, 2007, we will elect 4 new board members. 

The Nominating Committee is charged to review the qualifications of all nominees and to consider the composition of the board to insure continuity and on-going equity of perspectives, backgrounds, and orientation in the decision-making body.  The Committee will report to the Board a recommended slate (the same number of nominees as board members rotating off), a statement of reasoning for the recommended slate, along with the names and support materials of all nominees. 

At the October board meeting (sometime between October 26 and 31, 2007), the Nominating Committee will report to the Board its findings and recommended slate.  A statement of reasoning for the slate, as well as the support material of all nominees will be made available to the Board.  The Committee will make its written report and support materials available to all Board members at least 4 days in advance of the Board meeting.  The Board will review the Committee’s report, identify and agree on a slate of nominees that the Board recommends to the Membership to fill the number of open spots.  The NET Membership will have access to all nominees and accompanying support materials.

The NET Membership will vote on-line, using Voting On Demand or an equivalent application, to elect 4 new Board Members.  Other off-line recordable voting mechanisms may also be used to supplement the on-line process.  The 2007 NET Board Election will take place during the 20-day period from November 12 through December 1, 2007. 

By the December meeting of the Board, the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees will confirm willingness of newly elected Board Members to serve.  The Board will approve and announce the result of the election of the new Board members by December 12, 2007.
